This book of tatting patterns is a modern collection designed by Janet Carroll. It starts off with a basic description of how to tat; however most of the patterns would require some experience and I have always felt that books like this should not try to tempt the beginner who may not be able to make a lot of the items described until later on.
That said, it's a lovely collection of patterns. There are no less than 15 patterns for large and elaborate doilies, three patterns for covering polystyrene eggs to make decorations for Easter, a section devoted to edgings some of which are quite unusual and a collection of Christmas baubles covered in tatting which range from one inch up to two and a half inches in size.
A tatter with intermediate level experience should be able to make most of the items in the book and the range of designs is such that most people would find items they would enjoy making in its pages.
