Swimsuits for Every Shape

Guest Author - Dina Tarek

You've probably come across a million swimsuit articles on every single fashion website known to man. Catchy titles that include the words bikini, beach, and summer drench the hottest magazines. However, because we all know that fashion is essentially about the truth, even the Giselle Bundchens among us are asking themselves one question:

How do I hide my problem areas?

That's why this article focuses on these areas and tells you how to deal with them, not the other way around. Because fashion is about making us women feel good about our bodies and not restricting ourselves for its sake, take a look so you can enjoy the beach:

Love Handles

The most resistant pieces of fat (fashionista talk, not doctor talk) are the bulges that hang off the side of your trousers and occasionally at the back as well, they are every slim fitting top's enemy.

Someone who really doesn't want us to get a cheeseburger invented a swimsuit with the areas that cover the love handles specifically cut out. It goes without saying that this hip-less style is suicide for this problem area. If you will go for a bikini, choose high bottoms that hold the bulge in. For camouflage, choose bottoms with darker edges for a trimming effect. Avoid any detailing on the sides; ruffles will only make the area seem exaggerated.

Tankini lovers make sure the exposed space between the top and bottom is minimal. For the one piece, avoid styles that cinch at the waist and go for vertical stripes.

Booty

The beloved assets can get a bit annoying when you're daydreaming about the summer days. Bikini or tankini bottoms need to provide enough coverage and that's why boy shorts can be a better idea. Skirt bottoms look extremely cute and are comfy for some beach volleyball. You could also wear low rise bottoms with side rings to prevent them from riding up. Just avoid smaller patterns, even if they are dark. Plunging one piece swimsuits are great because they minimize, but not so great if you have a boyish figure.

Absolute no-nos: Thongs, strings, and white.

Cleavage

For the well-endowed, pick a fuller bikini top with a V-neck. What about a thick strappy halter instead of a strapless top? Darker colors are your best friend and always make sure the top gives you enough support. Move and tug when you try it on and make sure it doesn't go and won't go anywhere, even when you're in the water. Good old underwire that ties in the back to the rescue, the saggy look is unflattering so make sure you have enough support. The one piece and the tankini are sexier options for triangle body shapes and provide a classier look.

For rectangle and athletic bodies (straight up and down), choose push-up demi-cup styles, triangle tops & oval necklines, and add a shimmery bronzer to the area to create definition. Elaborate, fun embellishments as well as horizontal lines will give the illusion of a fuller bust.

Belly

Last but not least, everybody's favorite, the abs. If that bulge just won't go away, grab a tankini with a looser top. Avoid low bottoms or elastic ones that push the stomach way too inwards. You can also go for a belted or empire waist one piece with a brighter hue on top and a darker color block on the bottom. Additionally, sarong cover-ups can be used to hide the belly. There are some great sheer ones that show off the legs and make the thighs look slimmer in beach goddess fashion.

Strike a pose and have a great summer!
