Long Hair with Short Bangs

Long Hair with Short Bangs
Short bangs (also called fringe) can be adorable on children. They are great for keeping a young child’s hair out of her face, when the rest of her hair is long and they make it easy and quick to style her hair. As adults with long hair, we often are hesitant to cut bangs. We wonder whether it will make us look childish or whether bangs will take away the sophisticated look of our style. However, short bangs don’t have to be childish. They can be stylish and flirty in long hair.

Create these bangs by separating out a triangle section beginning about one or two inches back from the center of the front hairline and reaching to the temples. Trim the bangs holding the shears at a vertical direction, instead of horizontally, and cutting upside down V’s into them. This is called ‘point cutting.’ If your subject has a wide forehead, angle the bangs down slightly at each side. If she has a narrow forehead, cut the bangs wider so that they show more of her forehead.

As you can see, the following two hairstyles are very stylish without bangs but are equally as attractive with bangs even though they have a completely different effect. The styles without bangs have an open-faced look. The also have the effect of causing the face to appear longer and more narrow.

The styles with bangs have a more casual appearance and a flirty look. They have the effect of causing a long face to appear shorter and fuller. When the bangs are kept short, they accentuate the eyes and have a youthful appearance. When bangs are long, they tend to obscure the eyes.

This hairstyle has long layers that start at about chin length. A thin layer of short bangs is carved out of the front. They extend from the outside corner of one eye to the outside corner of the other and do not blend with the rest of the layers of the hairstyle. Cutting the bangs straight across would cause an awkward effect, however, using the point cutting method, as described above, they will soft looking and stylish.

This long hairstyle has short layers starting at the top and continuing to the ends. The bangs are short and spikey in this style and blend in with the rest of the layers. They are texturized and kept well above the eyebrows. These bangs are easily worn all the way across the forehead or brushed to the side.
