Grace was five when she witnessed the murder-suicide of her parents. After several foster homes, one in which she suspected a fellow foster child murdered a special-needs child as well as her foster mother, she was adopted by her psychologist. Grace was extremely smart, obtained her PhD, and became a popular psychologist. When a new patient comes to see her, then is murdered, Grace's life is suddenly changed, and she must delve into her past to find the murderer before being murdered herself.

Jonathan Kellerman's book, The Murderer's Daughter is a standalone novel with enough twists and turns to keep readers on the edge. Kellerman's signature straightforward writing style, coupled with a fascinating storyline make for an excellent novel. Kellerman is also a psychologist and uses his knowledge and expertise in the field to craft believable, suspenseful scenarios that will appeal to almost everyone. The story also brings out some of the sad truths about foster homes and troubled children everywhere, as well as the problems caused when government gets involved in human lives.

Although favorite Kellerman character, Alex Delaware is mentioned in the novel, The Murderer's Daughter has a new set of intriguing characters. This novel is slightly different from Kellerman's norm in that it does contain a few adult situations; however, there is no overly graphic sex or violence. Kellerman's novels are generally fast reads, and this is no exception. While the novel may not be Kellerman's best, it is a very good read, both for established Kellerman fans and also for those unfamiliar with his novels.
