Setting Goals to Reach Your Dreams
C. S. Lewis
Starting a home business can seem like a large undertaking. It can also be one of the most meaningful things a person can do for themselves and their family. One way to make sure it all runs as smoothly as possible is to set clear, concise goals. The goals you set can make or break a home business. There are a few things that anyone thinking about starting their own business must think about right from the start.
A dream is just a goal that hasn’t been achieved. The first thing any home entrepreneur needs to do is to determine what the exact dream is? Be clear about what you want in a career. Be specific about every area of the life you want to live in direct relation to your dream. These aspects will become your goals. Once you have the goals clearly laid out in front of you then determine what steps need to be taken to achieve those goals.
Goals are just steps that have not been taken. So write out a guide to what steps need to be taken to achieve each goal and a time limit to take each of those steps. The idea is to be constantly moving toward the completion of each goal. You can make this as simple as a list of steps or an elaborate plan. However, don’t take too much time in the planning stage that it eats up your time for doing. This list or plan will become your action plan. Once you have the action plan in hand it is time to act, to do.
Now that you have your action plan is complete, the next step is simply to start working on those steps when you can. Every successful entrepreneur starts their journey of making their dreams come true by achieving their goals. If you need to schedule time while working your “day job” then do it. If you have to take care of the steps on weekends or nights, do it. The idea is to knock out each step as you build momentum, and watch your goals give way to living your dreams.
One way to keep living the dream is to frequently go back to your list and determine if any goals have changed, or need to change, depending on how your dream has changed. Once you are actually living the dream you may find that some things need tweaked and if they do, all you have to do is follow the same steps to reach any new goals need to be created.
As a person interacts with others, their lives reflect that interaction and how, if any it changes a person. A dream you had when you were a child is not the same dream you have as a teenager. Many young adults that have finished college or started a family find their dreams have drastically changed. There are many stages of life that bring about new changes and new dreams, don’t be afraid to follow those dreams and see where they take you. Just remember to have an action plan so you know how to stay on track along the way.
