Solaan's Beaded Earrings.

I used a size 20 cotton, size 9/0 seed beads (52 pcs), 4mm bicone crystal beads (5 pcs) and 7mm bugle beads (26 pcs). These figures are for one earring. Double them for a pair, but thread up for one earring at a time. When you thread the bugle beads, be sure to alternate each one with a seed bead. This stops the glass edge of the bugle bead from cutting or damaging the thread. The design uses shuttle and ball thread. I have used 'sb' for seed beads and 'bb' for bugle beads. Thread all the beads before winding the shuttle, and in this order:

Set 1 of beads: 7sb, 1 crystal, 7sb
Set 2: 7sb, 1 crystal, 7sb
Set 3: 12sb
Set 4: 1sb, 1 crystal, 1sb, 1 crystal, 1sb, 1 crystal, 1sb
Set 5: *1sb, 4bb each sep by 1sb, 3sb, 4bb each sep by 1sb, 1sb *
[ 1sb, 5bb each sep by 1sb, 3sb, 5bb each sep by 1sb, 1sb]
{ 1sb, 4bb each sep by 1sb, 3sb, 4bb each sep by 1sb, 1sb}

Now wind the shuttle leaving Set 1 and Set 2 of beads on the ball thread. Do not cut the shuttle from the ball.

R 1. Move 3sb from Set 3 onto the thread that encircles the hand. Work 10ds, move 1sb from shuttle up to the sts, work 1 3sb-p, 6ds, smp, 4ds, cl r.

R 2. Move 3sb as before. Work 4ds, j, 6ds, move 1sb up from shuttle,
1 3sb-p, 6ds, smp, 4ds, cl r.

R 3. Move 3sb as before. Work 4ds, j, 6ds, move up last sb of Set 3,
1 3sb-p, 10ds, cl r.

R 4. Move all of Set 4 beads on the hand. Work 1ds, sb-p, 1ds, crystal-p, 1ds,
etc. until all seven beads are used, with 1ds between picots, ending 1ds, cl r.

RW. For the chain, work only the 1st half of the DS.
So '6 sts' means 6 first-half sts. Use Set 2 of the beads on the ball thread.
Ch of 6sts, 1sb-p, 6sts, 1 sb-p etc, continuing thus until you have worked 7 sb-p,
1 crystal-p and 7 sb-p, ending with 6sts. Spiral the chain evenly on itself. RW.

R 5. Put all the rem. beads (Set 5) onto the hand.
Work 2ds, long bead-picot, using beads marked * * 2ds, long bead-picot, using beads marked [ ]
2ds, long bead-picot using beads marked { } 2ds, cl r.
Take care to leave picots with enough thread for beads to hang easily.

RW. Using Set 1beads, work a spiral chain as before. Spiral the chain on itself before joining into the base of R 4. Tie and cut.

Thread a jump ring through the top bead of R 2 and attach the earwire to the jump. If you prefer, you can omit R 5 and thread the tassels on beading thread, stitching them into the centre of R 4. Shown also are variations with the three ring start or 5 rings start, dangles only and spiral dangles.
