Initially the Dodge Challenger will be offered in the form of an SRT8 as a 2008 model year car. It’s a true muscle car with a 400hp 6.1 liter V8 hemi mated with a six speed manual transmission. Dealers started taking orders for the initial production run of 10,000 cars destined for US and Canadian consumption on December 3, 2007 and at this point it looks like all 10,000 are sold. The 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 has an MSRP of $41,985, which includes a MyGig Infotainment System with Nav, Gas Guzzler Tax and destination charge. (lens-WCV)

The 2008 Challenger will be built on the same assembly line that as the Chrysler 300. If you are not one of the first 10,000 buyers don’t whine just yet there is rumored to be a 425hp version being considered for 2009 along with the standard hemi and V-6 version to follow shortly thereafter. Along with the Chrysler 300, the Charger and the Viper, Dodge-Chrysler-Plymouth may have the largest lineup of American Muscle of any manufacturer. (lens-WCV)

This should prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that Americans love their muscle cars...
