Selling On Envato GraphicRiver

Selling On Envato GraphicRiver
GraphicRiver is a great and popular place for selling your artwork. Let's take a look at their guidelines for authors.

Vectors

All vectors should be compatible with IllustratorR 10, in the .eps format and either RGB or CMYK. The files must be easily customized by the buyer. So do not use raster images, effects or open paths.

Just what is an open path. It's just what it sounds like. It's a path with two open anchor points. The best example is a simple line path, which has a start and end point. There are several open path shape tools, including the Line Segment, Arc, Spiral, Rectangular Grid and Polar Grid tools. Open paths such as simple strokes are acceptable. What you need to avoid is an open path with a fill applied.

Another way to make your files easy to customize is to label all layers and group layers for organization. For example, you might want to draw a vector object such as a cell phone. You might make this cell phone white and black. But if the customer wishes the cell phone to be pink and gray, it should be easy to change these colors, with all the layers for the cell phone object grouped together. Also you need to check for locked or hidden layers and unlock them.

Another consideration is the use of brush strokes and custom patterns. Both of these need to be expanded, which will expand the complex brush stroke into many individual objects/strokes.

If you wish to include an Illustrator .ai file compatible with newer versions of Illustrator or a .jpg file, these should be in a second zip file and uploaded with the main zip file. You might wish to do this if your original vector file contains brush strokes, patterns and effects that are not expanded. You can include the original file in the second zip. It's very important to include information about these extra files in the item description and help file.

GraphicRiver sells more than just vectors and they have a few general guidelines. Your product files cannot be larger than 1 GB. You need to also include a preview image that is 590 x 300 pixels and a thumbnail that is 80 x 80 pixels. (jpg, png or gif) These should be included in the main zip file.

If you prefer to have more than the default preview image in your listing, you can upload a preview image set in a second zip file. These can be 900 x 900 pixels. You need to name the jpgs in a numeric sequence.

02_NameOfFile.jpg

You also need to include a help file for your customer, including important information about how to use your file. For example, help files for product mockup files should include instructions for using the smart objects, layer styles and linked images. The file can be either a text file or a pdf.

If you use non-standard fonts in your product, you will need to include the name of the fonts and links to where the customer can purchase them.

Finally, you will need to have your metadata ready, including a product title, description and up to 30 tags/keywords.
