Grilled Sandwich Ideas
I love a grilled sandwich. They just look elegant and rustic, all at the same time. That first toothsome crunch when my front teeth break through that crusty bread is just delightful. That burst of oily, browned-off flavor rushes across my taste buds. Did I say that I love a grilled sandwich? If you love them, too, here are some ideas.
Grilled Sandwich Ideas:
*Salami, bologna, pepperoni, and provolone grilled on sourdough with mayo and mustard, and with onions, pickles, and lettuce.
*Turkey and pepperjack cheese with lettuce, jalapenos, and sliced tomatoes with ranch grilled on pumpernickel bread.
*Grilled rye bread with Swiss cheese, a thin hamburger patty, and grilled onions with Dijon mustard.
*Tuna patty with melted cheddar grilled on an inside out hamburger bun with tartar sauce and lettuce.
*Lamburger with Swiss cheese on a freshly grilled inside out burger bun with muffaletta and dill-lemon mayo.
*Tuna salad grilled on rye with a tomato slice.
*Inside out egg bun grilled in garlic olive oil, with rare roast beef, horseradish, and mayo.
*Grilled olive bread with pastrami, mayo, Italian dressing, provolone, and grilled veggies.
*Dilled salmon spread on grilled rye with tomato and butter lettuce.
*Sweet pineapple habanero sauce, muffaletta olive salad, mayo, poached chicken blended into a salad and served on grilled sourdough bread.
*Swiss cheese, jalapeno jack cheese, cheddar cheese, mayo, slivered onions, pickles, and spinach leaves grilled on rye bread.
*Egg salad grilled on pumpernickel with a tomato slice and lettuce.
*Swiss cheese grilled on sourdough with sliced tomatoes, lettuce leaf, pickles, and mayo.
*Grilled sweet rosemary-lemon bread with a goat cheese spread.
*Grilled inside out garlic bun with spinach, basil, tomato, fresh mozzarella, and mayo.
*Olive tapenade, thin sliced tomato, and cheddar cheese on spelt bread, and then grilled.
*Grilled cheese on sprouted grain bread with mayo, pickles, colby-jack cheese, and a lettuce leaf tucked in at the end.
*Inside out onion Kaiser roll grilled with pepperjack, Swiss, Colby, and provolone cheeses.
*Grilled English muffin bread with a fried egg, melted cheese, mayo, mustard, lettuce, and tomato.
*Gouda smoked cheese, shredded lettuce, slivered onions, tomatoes, pickled peppers, and ranch dressing grilled in a panini.
When a sandwich is made with an inside out bun, that means to use the cut sides of the bun as the outside of the bread, and the darker brown crusty side inside the sandwich. This allows the bun to be grilled. A local fast food restaurant used to make their delicious grilled cheese sandwiches on oversized grilled inside out buns. They were amazing sandwiches!
When making a grilled sandwich with a salad, just grill the bread first. Then, layer the sandwich onto the grilled bread. Do this for egg salad, turkey salad, ham salad, chicken salad, seafood salad, and other similar mayonnaise-based salads. This avoids having a soggy grilled salad sandwich.
Sandwiches can also be grilled dry, without using any oil. Our favorite coffee house does that. I don't like them as much. If the extra calories from the oil is a problem for you, use non-stick cooking spray. There is just a tiny bit of oil, but a sandwich grills up beautifully with just a quick spritz of the non-stick cooking spray. Don't use the kind with flour! That might not make the crust that you want on the bread! Enjoy your sandwiches!
