Dong Thap Muoi (Plain of Reeds)
Tourists travel to Dong Thap Muoi to view the vast swamp forests and its flocks of birds. There are redhead cranes, herons, pelicans and egrets. Unfortunately, the redhead cranes are on view only during the dry season.
The wet season is during the months July through January. The Vam Co Tay is the deepest during September and October. Boat trips on the river is quite an experience.
Go during the wet season for the interesting swamp tour. The forest of Cajeput is under several meters of water. A guide glides the boat through the swamp. The guide avoids the underwater tree roots. The protrusions above the water are easy to avoid. The hidden underwater dangers highlight the guide’s skills.
The forest is quiet. The traveler sits back and observes the giant cajeput trees. Vines wrap around the wide trunks to climb upwards to the life-giving sun. Sunlight dapples the waters through occasional breaks in the tree canopy.
Silence is broken by birds in song or the splash of fish. The insects' chirps provide a beautiful background symphony. Otters frolic in the water. Turtles and snakes swim by with quiet grace.
Go to Dong Thap Muoi (Plain of Reeds) for a great tour. Rent a boat and guide. Sit back and enjoy the scenery. Take photographs of the colorful wildlife. Get a wonderful respite from busy Vietnam city life.
