Constantine Mouralis

Question: "I’m a 22-year-old man. My hair is long and I wear it tied back in a ponytail most of the time because it is so curly. I want Constantine’s (from American Idol) hairstyle.
Adam"

Constantine Maroulis has a great look. It has a long-hair feeling but it isn’t so long that it drags on his shoulders. This style is layered slightly to release the waves and is angled, from just below jaw length in the front to the top of his shoulders in back.

Since you say that your hair is curly. Chances are that it has more curl than Constantine’s.
You can still achieve the look with proper care. After obtaining a professional haircut,
  1. Shampoo and condition your hair with Moisturizing or Smoothing products.
  2. Towel dry your hair and apply Soothing Serum and Styling Glaze. Comb it through thoroughly.
  3. Comb your hair into place, allowing it to fall into a natural part. There is no need to straighten the part if it falls off-center. Allow your hair to dry naturally without scrunching or fluffing. Wait until your hair is thoroughly dry before doing anything to it.

Allowing it to move or even blow in a breeze may encourage it to curl.
(I’m not saying that you need to slick it down perfectly flat to your head. Just allow it to lie naturally and undisturbed until dry)
  4. When your hair is completely dry, loosen and comb it with your fingers. It will wave slightly but it won’t be overly curly.

If this styling plan still results in too much curl, a relaxer can be used, being careful to process it only long enough to result in a wave, not straight hair. This should be done by a professional.

For those of you with straight hair, this look can be yours with a wave perm.
Extra large permanent wave rods are used in large sections. Each rod is dropped down from the base so that the wave does not go all the way to the scalp. This creates a very natural and ‘un-permed’ effect.

To style hair that has little or no wave, you may scrunch it occasionally while it is drying to encourage the wave.

Constantine’s hair color
His brown hair has strategically placed highlights. A few medium blond strands are spaced about an inch apart and drop down naturally from the center part. It is important to keep the highlights in small strands and in a color that is close enough to your own hair color that it forms soft streaks.

Adam, this is a great choice for a new style and a nice update for long hair.
