Wedding Jewelry Trends
Guest Author - Chris Franchetti

Today's wedding jewelry trends span many styles and themes. Brides, wedding party members, family, and guests are using wedding celebrations as special opportunities to get creative with personal adornment.

Earrings, necklaces and bracelets designed for wedding-wear are often styled to complement the whites and ivories of traditional wedding dresses. But wedding jewelry can also be used to enhance the personalized theme of a wedding, or even to match carefully-placed color accents on a bridal gown. And since it's becoming popular for brides and their party to change outfits between the wedding and reception (even Camilla changed clothes between her private and public ceremonies), there's often a need for two distinct sets of jewelry for one wedding day.

Here are some of this year's most popular wedding jewelry trends:

  • Chandeliers - The chandelier earring styles we've grown to love for everyday-jewelry make dramatic wedding earrings* when adorned with pearls or crystals. Chandeliers can also take the form of elegant necklace stations or pendants.
  • 20th Century vintage - The romantic styles of the 1920s, '30s, and '40s - from Art Deco* to Old Hollywood* - are perfect for any elegant wedding, not just themed ceremonies. Look for sparkling faceted stones and quality vintage glass beads.
  • Drapey drops and multiple layers - Many brides will take advantage of the bold, multi-layer necklace* look this year. We'll see lots of drapey strands, often surrounding eye-catching centerpieces. Layers may be adorned with pearls, crystal beads, and even less-traditional materials like mother-of-pearl or moonstone gemstones.
  • Contemporary pearls - Pearls of all shapes and sizes are everywhere this year, and they're readily available in non-traditional, dyed colors in addition to classic creams and whites. Some brides are adding color accents to their wedding gowns, and colorful pearls* can be beautiful matching accompaniments.
  • Hair jewelry and tiaras - Tiaras* and other jeweled hair accents are popular feminine favorites worn not only by brides, but by their wedding parties and guests as well. Traditional tiaras are crafted from wire, beads, crystals, and rhinestones. Jeweled combs* and beaded hair pins are also available for a more subtle look. For the bride and her party wearing updos, specialty hair sticks* can add a fun and unique finishing touch.
  • Ribbon-band watches - No one wants to arrive late to a wedding - especially not to her own! Today there are lots of fabulous watch styles that make very appropriate wedding wear. For example, the trendy new ribbon watches* are feminine, a little bit formal, and can be matched to a wedding's color theme. Vintage-style* and true-vintage metal watches, some adorned with dainty rhinestones, also make beautiful wedding day accents.
