Buddhist Mantra's
Guest Author - Jeanette Stingley

Avalokiteshvara or Chenrezig

OM MANI PADME HUM
or OM MANI PADME HUNG

This mantra of universal compassion has two different pronunciations, and both are correct.
According to His Holiness the Dalai Lama this mantra means “that in dependence on the practice of a path which is an indivisible union of method and wisdom, you can transform your impure body, speech, and mind into the pure exalted body, speech, and mind of a Buddha.”

Manjushri

OM AH RA PA TSA NA DHI

Manjushri is known as the Buddha of wisdom.

Medicine Buddha

TAYATHA OM BEKHANDZE BEKHANDZE MAHA BEKHANDZE BEKHANDZE RANDZA SAMUNGATE SOHA

The Medicine Buddha is the Buddha of healing

Amitabha

NAMO AMITABHA BUDDHA

Amitabha is the Buddha of the realm of ultimate bliss.

Shakyamuni

TATYATA OM MUNI MUNI MAHA MUNI SHAKYAMUNIYE SVAHA

Shakyamuni is Siddhartha Gautama and is sometimes called “the historical Buddha”

Padmasambhava

OM AH HUM VAJRA GURU PADMA SIDDHI HUM

Padmasambhava (Lotus Born) spread the Dharma to Tibet.

Vajrapani

OM VAJRAPANI HUM SVAHA

Vajrapani is a protection deity.

Vajrasattva

OM VAJRASATTVA HUM

Vajrasattva is a purification practice done daily to purify negative actions. There is a larger text of words that are to be said. If you do not have time to do the full text daily, this short mantra can be said in place of it.

White Mahakala

OM GURU MAHAKALA HARI NI SA SIDDHI DZA

This practice is done at the beginning of the year for wealth and prosperity..

As you may have noticed this is by no means a complete list I will be adding more in future articles.
