Almost every woman has worn a ponytail. It was the favorite hairstyle for many grade school girls who wore long hair. If you were in a hurry, if you didn’t want to shampoo your hair or if you didn’t want to curl your hair, you would just pop it up into a ponytail and it was done for the day. Now the ponytail is a trendy hairstyle that is suitable for any occasion. Ponytails are worn to school, to the office, to the prom and parties and are even seen on the Red Carpet.

As in any hairstyle, preparing your hair in advance will provide a nicer result. Shampoo and condition your hair with products that are formulated for your hair texture. Careful selection of excellent quality shampoo and conditioner will leave your hair shiny and manageable. For these full and feminine ponytails, use volumizing shampoo and conditioner and apply body building mousse or gel before blowing your hair dry.

Dressy, Fluffy Ponytail
After your hair is thoroughly dry, prepare it by setting it on large hot rollers. Let the rollers cool before removing them and brush your hair lightly. Back-brush or ‘tease’ your hair in the crown. Spray the teasing with firm hold hairspray. Gently brush over the top to conceal the teasing. Using your fingers, comb your hair into a low ponytail and secure it loosely with a covered elastic band. Wrap a strand of hair around the elastic to conceal it. Fasten the ends of the strand by tucking a bobby pin under the elastic. Spray with flexible hold hair spray.

Sexy Side Ponytail
To create this sexy side ponytail prepare your hair with hot rollers as in the style above. Pull your hair into a loose side ponytail and secure it with a covered elastic band. To station the ponytail closer to your neck, grasp a strand underneath and on each side of the tail and pull at right angles.

Full, Messy Ponytail
This style is perfect for the second or third day of a hairstyle – when your hair is straight and flat. Turn you head upside down and spray your hair with volumizing spray, such as spray gel. Direct the spray at the root area of your hair. While still upside down, blow your hair with a blow dryer. This will create texture and fullness. Repeat the process if your hair is still soft. When you have sufficient body in your hair, pull it back into a loose ponytail, using your fingers. Spray the sides only with hairspray.
