Nathan Road, Hong Kong's Top Destination
Nathan Road is also known as the Golden Mile. It was known as Robinson Mile before the change to Nathan Road. The road was named after the 13th Governor of Hong Kong, Sir Matthew Nathan.

Nathan Road divides Kowloon Peninsular from north to south in a straight line. It starts a little below Boundary Street in Mongkok and continues to the Tsim Sha Tsui’s waterfront. This is the main thoroughfare of Kowloon.

People scoffed when the wide boulevard was proposed. Fortunately, the designers did not listen to the detractors. Today, there are rarely traffic jams on this highly populated street.

The Hong Kong visitor must walk the boulevard of luxury hotels, shops and restaurants. It is these luxurious businesses which caused Nathan Road's name change to Golden Mile. At night, the shops are brightly lit and neon-decorated. It resembles Times Square in New York, New York. And it is just as busy.

Walk down Golden Mile and soak in the atmosphere. Stop and do some window shopping or better yet enter and investigate the wares. View the other pedestrians. Stop at a food stall and partake of a Hong Kong delicacy. Golden Mile (Nathan Road) is one of the world’s fascinating streets. It is not to be missed.

Invest in a passport holder. I prefer the kind which is waterproof and worn as belt around the waist. It is worn under your clothes and not seen by others. There is a zipper compartment divided for passport, money and credit cards. It is so comfortable the wearer can sleep with it around the waist.

The type which hang about the neck invites troubles and who wants someone pulling on a strong cord around the neck. Remember to carry the amount of money needed for the day’s activities in your pocket and the rest placed safely away.
