Root Touch-up - Product Review

Root Touch-up - Product Review
Those of us that use hair color know that within two to three weeks after the application, those pesky roots start to become noticeable. Usually, our appointment for the retouch is still two or three weeks away and everyday the roots are becoming more apparent. In my own hair, white hairs show at the temple and in the part area. I tested a product this week that is very helpful in covering up those white hairs up or at least camouflaging them.

MimicColor is a temporary hair color make-up. It is used to touch up new growth between permanent hair color applications and is most effective around the hairline or on the part – where-ever the new growth shows.

MimcColor comes in a container that resembles pressed powder or blusher and comes with its own brush. There are two brushes included. The smaller, more narrow, brush is good for using on eyebrows or for exercising more control on a root touch-up. In testing them, I found that the large brush is very soft, so it took a bit of brushing across the product in order to pick up the color, although, once I got it started, it was easier.

When I first applied MimicColor, I thought that the intensity was not strong enough to cover or blend the gray, but as I reapplied the color, I saw that it did indeed camouflage the new growth and blend it into the preciously tinted hair. The need for a build up of intensity is actually helpful in adjusting the color for a closer match to different hair color shades.

I tried all four shades of MimcColor (it comes in Blonde, Medium Brown, Red Tone and Dark Brown) and found that they were all natural looking and believable. I found that with my auburn hair, I could use either Blonde or Red Tone and still get a natural blend. I could comb through the blended hair and the color stayed on. When I rinsed the hair with plain water, the color stayed on. (No fear of color dripping if I get caught in a rain shower.) When I shampooed my hair, MimcColor was completely and easily removed.

Three weeks later; my hairdresser is out of town so I'm using MimicColor all the time. It covers my white hair and helps to blend in the darker hair.

Packaging problem: After regular use of MimicColor, the cake of color came loose from the package and has broken into two pieces. Now, when I stroke the brush onto the color, it is necessary to use my other hand to hold the cake in place. I still like the coverage of MimicColor but it is inconvenient to use.
