I have to commend author Victoria Adams on my newest read, Triplets? Relax! This book is exactly what it says it is in the preface: an organized, quick reading set of clear and manageable tips to keep your sanity in case you haven’t been prepped on what you’ll be feeling after the birth of three children at once.
The book starts with a promise to keep you from saying “who has time to read a book?” The author promises to keep her points succinct, with only one or two ideas per page. Read through the book start to finish, or flip through the contents and handle what’s pressuring you right now. Either way, you’re covered with great tips that apply to everyone. From telling you how many swings you need, how to keep the laundry basket from getting so heavy that it falls through the bedroom floor, each tip makes perfect sense to a mom who is on the verge of pulling her hair out searching for answers.
As a twin mom, one of the topics I really appreciated and could relate with was in the organization and shortcuts. Topics that are addressed are the obvious and not so obvious; cleaning bottles efficiently, tips to effectively get a decent run of uninterrupted sleep, and for a bonus, a couple of the author’s personal time management schedules as a guideline to taking control of the reader’s own life. Victoria makes it clear that everything she’s written is a personal account of what worked and what didn’t, and gives tips on stroller choices, pumping milk and working it into the schedule (including “getting ahead” of your pumping schedule). I found the breast feeding/pumping tips to be quite extraordinary, and saw a few tips I had never thought of.
If you are one of those triplet moms (or mom to be), and you had that look of a deer in the headlights when you first heard the words “get ready,” then this is the book for you. It’s small enough to read in 15-30 minutes, and will serve as a reference point for a few years. Victoria sheds some light on the toddler years as well-which will be coming up before you know it. The point is, Triplets? Relax! is one of those quick reads that offers up what you want to hear with no fluff-and will make you feel better about handling what’s on your plate. It’s true, there is no instruction manual for raising triplets. However, if there were, this would be it!
