The Replacements

The Replacements
What happens when the NFL players decide to go on strike? Their teams decide to hire replacements to take their place. Washington Sentinels owner, Jack Warden, hires retired coach Jimmy McGinty who hand picks an unlikely group including former college quarterback Shane Falco. While this team makes a run at the playoffs, here are a few movie mistakes to look for!

· After Jimmy McGinty accepts the coaching job, he’s in his office talking to Pilachowski and Banes. In the front view, with the other two in front of the desk, Pilachowski has a folded black booklet in his left hand and both hands are in front of him. It cuts to Jimmy when he says “We’re going a different way” and Pilachowski’s hands are empty and are on his hips.

· The first time Falco sees Annabelle, he walks by her and another lady. In the front view of him, he puts on his helmet and the chin strap is dangling/unhooked as he looks back. But in the close-up of him, the chin strap is fastened. Later in the film, during the Sentinel’s first game, Gruff goes to kick his first field goal. In the first close-up of him when he’s on the field, his chin strap is fastened. It cuts to a farther front view (when he moves to the right of the screen) and his chin strap is unfastened, dangling down on his jersey. It cuts back to the close-up and it’s hooked again.

· After the “shooting Martel’s car” incident, Jimmy McGinty is talking to the team and writes the word FEAR on the board in large letters. Notice how the word changes during the scene. When he originally writes the word, the R has a noticeable loop in the middle. In the front view, when he says “who wants to start”, the lettering is slightly different and the R has no loop. A few moments later, the original lettering and the loop is back!

· During the Sentinel’s game against San Diego, the cheerleaders are performing their dance. The crowd is watching as well as the quarterback for San Diego (Number 12) on the sidelines. It cuts to the team lining up on the field and Number 12 is suddenly watching the performance from the field.

· Falco stops by the bar where Annabelle works. She hops up on the bar, talking about how she wishes her dad could see them play. In the close-up of her, when she says “good game today” and they clink glasses, Annabelle is holding the mug of beer around the middle of the glass. It cuts to a close-up of Falco when he says “Thanks” and Annabelle’s hand can be seen holding the mug by its handle. It cuts back to the close-up of her when she takes a sip and she’s holding the mug around the middle again.

· When Franklin gets the “stick ‘em” put on his hands, the cup that gets stuck to them is in his left hand as he runs to the huddle. But when he makes it there, the close-up shows the cup on his right hand. Then it shows him put the cup back on his left hand, which he swings, trying to get it off. In the next close-up, he then switches the cup back to his right hand. When Falco yells his name, it’s on his left hand and he puts it back on his right before Falco grabs it and tosses it aside.

· CAUTION: May Contain Spoilers! At the very end, after the Sentinels win, Falco and Annabelle kiss in the field. Her hands are on his head and as the camera pans around, she drops her hands to his arms. It cuts to a close-up and Annabelle’s hands are back on his face.

“The Replacements” (2000) stars Keanu Reeves, Gene Hackman, Brooke Langton, Orlando Jones, Faizon Love, Michael Taliferro, Jon Favreau, Rhys Ifans, Gailard Sartain, Art LaFleur and Brett Cullen. It runs 118 minutes and is rated PG-13 for some crude sexual humor and language.
