My Camino - Sue Kenney

My Camino - Sue Kenney
This is the true story of Canadian Sue Kenney’s walk on her spiritual journey to confront her fears. Santiago de Compostela is the one of the oldest pilgrim destinations and Kenney packs up her life, picks up her rucksack and embarks on a life-changing route.

The Camino Frances starts in France and climbs up and over the Pyranees and into northern Spain and ends in Galicia in the city of Santiago de Compostela, the supposed resting place of the body of St. James one of the twelve apostles.

Kenney is one of the ten thousands pilgrims a year who make this walk, but most choose the warmer months! Juggling her commitments to allow a month to disappear to Spain can’t have been easy.

The first part of her journey and the first time of facing her unknown fears began on the plane journey from Toronto to Paris, when every possible thing that could happen began racing through her mind. She was well outside her comfort zone. The place she knew she had to get to, get through and walk out the other side a more complete, more accepted person, was 29 walking days away. Her journey is about getting to know herself, getting to like herself and growing to love herself.

What a walk! Oh that we could all get to that point, but how many of us have the determination, stamina and internal strength that Sue has? Grit, determination is the key, some people have to work harder at it than others, some just never bother.

Thank you Sue for writing your story and being an encouragement in the lives of many many others who I hope are able to step out of their comfort zone and reach for a higher place.

This story is worth the read, if your walk is losing weight or going for a new job, getting some more education, whatever journey you have set for yourself is as important for you as Sue’s 29 day walk was for her.

When you’ve planned a trip like this and you’ve travelled half-way around the world, you have to keep going - through awful weather and injury Sue plodded step by step to complete her 780km journey of achieving freedom from fear and self-love.

Yes, she felt like giving up, it wasn’t easy, easy is doing nothing. To reach our potential and grow as a person we have to set ourselves goals. Do you have a goal, it doesn’t have to be huge maybe it’s just the first step a longer journey, but without the first step there can’t be a second.
