The First 30 Days: Your Guide to Any Change (and Loving Your Life More)
Ariane de Bonvoisin
Published: May 6, 2008
I wish I had been introduced to author Ariane de Bonvoisin when my life was in upheaval a few years ago. I did get through it, but believe this book could have helped to make my transition somewhat easier.
The First 30 Days is an easy to understand book that can help you move beyond the bumps and bruises that life can bring into our lives. Ms. de Bonvoisin makes you remember that all life is a journey, not a destination; and along the way change happens. How do you or will you handle change in your life? The First 30 Days teaches readers how to develop a positive approach to any change that touches us along the way as we make our journey.
The information and advice in The First 30 Days has been read and given before, however, Ms. de Bonvoisin has added a warm and personal touch by sharing personal experiences. This makes this book very reader-friendly.
The First 30 Days has nine thought-provoking chapters, each one begins with a principle. If you do nothing more than read and digest each principle you will be well on your way to positive change in your life.
If you are a voracious reader you can read this book in a couple of days, but try not to do that. Instead read it slowly and take advantage of the exercises the author offers. Take Action, Create Your Change Resume in Chapter 3 (p.62) is a particular effective exercise because it shows personal change. The beauty of this book is that it does not take 30 days for positive change to take place in your life, each page brings you closer to your goal. While all of the chapters helpful, some may speak to you more than others. There are countless stories from people who have shared their life experiences with the author. Some of the stories are heartbreaking, some are simply "ah-ha!" moments, but each personal experience shared proves that anything can give you strength and resolve to move on.
Ms. de Bonvoisin encourages us to take some time to get in touch with our spiritual side. She says, "Isn't it extraordinary how much we fight the idea of being quiet? What are we afraid of? What's the worst that could happen? Who could come out and hurt us? What are we avoiding? There are few things more essential than taking five to ten minutes a day to find your center; it will help you handle anything going on in your life. Just be quiet. Nearly every religion encourages silence and solitude. Remember: whenever we lose something external during change, we always have the chance to regain an inner home."
The First 30 Days is highly recommended for anyone feeling uneasy about a life change they are presently going through. Also recommended for those who are expecting a life change in the near future.
