It was an unexpected delight last year, and Karl Pilkington is back with a bucket list created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. It seems that this season Karl will have a little more say in his adventures, since he is allowed to choose what items on the list he would like to accomplish.
Nothing is ever as it seems with Mr. Gervais, which is the core joke of the show. In the season premiere Karl wants to spend the night on a deserted island. There is much debate as to how this will be accomplished as well as what attire he will be allowed to don during the stay.

Ricky: Come on! It will be sunny. You can just walk around naked.
Karl: No. I wouldn't do that.
Ricky: Why? There's no-one there. Just walk around naked...
Karl: No! I still wouldn't do it. I wouldn't do that.
Ricky: Well, if you're doing this, we're confiscating your pants when you land.
So Karl is off to his deserted island, but Ricky and Stephen have a few stops for him along the way, including bungee jumping, and land diving on Pentecost Island in the south pacific, said to be the birthplace of bungee jumping. In one of the funniest scenes of this premiere episode, Karl attempts to do the traditional land dive. Unfortunately, he only makes it about four feet off the ground and still jumps in horror. The banter that goes back and forth between Stephen, Karl, and Ricky in regards to the event is legendary and just hilarious.
Karl whines, makes excuses, and calls out Ricky and Stephen for their underhanded antics, but eventually attempts to complete the tasks put forth. After a bit of survival training from the natives, including a grass skirt and spear, Karl finally reaches his deserted island. His and our idea of the islandís beautiful sunny beach, lapping cool waves, and paradise all around is quickly shattered when Karl finds himself on the most miserable, cold, rainy, rocky island on the planet. He survives, cursing Ricky and Stephenís names while leaving the island. As he paddles away the sun come out, warm and wonderful, and the irony doesnít even escape Karlís notice.
Once again Ricky and Stephen have convinced Karl to play their game, and we are the benefactors of the antics. If you missed the introduction of Idiot Abroad in the first go around, here is your second chance. Donít miss out on an educational yet hilarious journey through the world and the mind of the Idiot Abroad, Karl Pilkington.
