Covenant (compact between God and his worshipers, a promise, law) .
November 26, is the Day of the Covenant, a Holy Day for Baha’is. It is the day that is used to celebrate the birth of ‘Abdu’l-Baha (Center of the Covenant) the son of Baha’u’llah. It isn’t actually his birthday, ‘Abdu’l-Baha’s birthday is the same day as the Declaration of the Bab (May 23). ‘Abdu’l-Baha asked that his birthday not be celebrated on his birthday (May 23) he wanted it to be only for the Declaration of the Bab.
The Day of the Covenant and Anniversary of the Passing of ‘Abdu’l-Baha are the only two Holy days when work doesn’t have to be suspended. Baha’is will come together and commemorate both these holy days as all the other Holy Days.In most regards, the Day of the Covenant is seen as a day to celebrate the life of ‘Abdu’l-Baha, but it is also a day of celebration in the Covenant of Baha’u’llah. It was Baha’u’llah that chose ‘Abdu’l Baha to be his successor and the Center of the Covenant after his death.
"In accordance with the explicit text of the Kitáb-i-Aqdas Bahá'u'lláh hath made the Center of the Covenant the Interpreter of His Word -- a Covenant so firm and mighty that from the beginning of time until the present day no religious Dispensation hath produced its like,” ‘Abdu’l-Baha.
