The 21st Annual Stellar Awards Set
On January 21, 2006, The Grand Ole Opry will house the 21st Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards televised ceremony. Eight time Stellar Award winner Vicki Winans will co-host America’s most respected gospel music award show, along with past Stellar Award winners and contemporaries Donnie McClurkin and Israel Houghton.
The legendary Winans Family is slated to receive the prestigious James Cleveland Lifetime Achievement Award, which is given annually to someone who has made a major impact in the development and advancement of gospel music. Fred Hammond will also receive the Most Notable Achievement Award for his pioneering work in song writing, outstanding performances and record sales success in the gospel music industry.
The tribute to the Winans Family will be a very special moment in the show as family and friends remember the late Ronald Winan in song. Some of this year’s all-star line-up of performances include Yolanda Adams, Walter Hawkins, Kirk Franklin, J Moss, Mississippi Mass Choir, Dottie Peoples, Mary Mary, Donald Lawrence, Kirk Whalum, Men of Standard, Shirley Caesar, Smokie Norful, Rance Allen,Jeff Majors, Kurt Carr, Dr. Charles Hayes & the Warriors. This year’s presenters include Gospel great Andre Crouch, Byron Cage, the legendary Albertina Walker, Joann Rosario, Christian recording artist Michael W. Smith, actor/entertainer Jeff Obafemi Carr, Rizen, The Soul Seekers, Keith “Wonderboy” Johnson, actress Nona Gaye along with a host of other entertainment industry luminaries.
The Chicago-based Central City Productions, Inc. (CCP) produces the Stellar Gospel Music Awards. It has been 20 years since the first awards show was taped at the Arie Crown Theater in Chicago, and the Stellar Awards has now become the premier Gospel event that recognizes and honors African American artists. This one of a kind award show has showcased top Gospel artists and many television and film stars.
