Fall Trend - Red Lipstick

It seems that every fashion magazine on newsstands today is letting us know, that lipstick back in style.

I never knew lipstick could ever be out of style. Sure I’ve have glosses and tints but my old standby has always been my trusty lipstick. I carry at least two in my purse.

My thoughts on this style alert is that the magazines are wrong, when it comes to lipstick it can never go out of style, it is the epitome of womanhood and class.

The other hot new trend in lipstick is classic red lipstick is making a comeback. Pardon me? Using a term like classic means that it stands the test of time and trends. Saying that red lipstick is the new trend for fall is like saying Chanel No. 5 is making a comeback.

However, seeing how red is the color for fall here’s a few tips for choosing the perfect red for you.

Despite what you may think, every women is capable of wearing this classy, glamorous shade, you just need to be sure it has the right undertone for your skin.

How to Determine Your Undertone

In natural light, hold a white piece of paper behind you wrist. If your skin looks golden or orange you have a Warm undertone. If you skin looks pink or blue than you would have a Cool undertone.

Thus, you need to look for a red lipstick with the same undertone of your skin. You can normally tell what shade of red suits you by using a tester on the inside of your wrist and picking the shade that looks nicest.

Tips for applying red lipstick

  1. Moisturize your lips with your favourite balm; this will prevent the lipstick from looking dry.
  2. Always use lip liner, red lipstick for some reason has a tendency to bleed and feather and using a lipliner will help prevent that. While your at it, fill in your entire lip area with the pencil, this will give the lipstick something to adhere to and will help it last longer.
  3. When applying red lipstick, use a lip brush to fill in your lips, and blot with a tissue. Apply a second coat for more intensity and blot once again.
  4. The last step is SMILE-you never know when your front teeth have taken a bite our of your red lipstick.

Enjoy this bold dramatic look and remember red lipstick is classic, it can never go out of style.
