Take a Stay-cation!

Times are tough and many are giving up their vacations in lieu of getaways closer to home. Just because your bank account is suffering, it doesn't mean you don't deserve a break or time away from home; even if it is for a short time. Seeking out local nature centers, museums, popular areas of interest, local recreation centers, and local businesses are just a few ideas to take a break locally without your pocketbook suffering.

Nearly every local area has a place where you can hike local trails and discover the natural beauty of a particular region. Usually your local township or county will have access to information regarding local trails on their websites under parks and recreation. If you can't find information on your local websites, consider going to www.localhikes.com. Make it a day and bring a picnic, enough food, and swimsuits. One never knows when they will find a fresh body of water to swim in!

Along with the idea of local nature trails, consider camping. Research online and explore local campgrounds. Find friends who may like to join you for a weekend or a few weeks. If you enjoy roughing it, find some tents and plan a fun filled time. If not, maybe cabin camping is for you. Many state parks have cabins that can be rented for a nominal fee. There is nothing more refreshing than spending some time out in nature to recharge those batteries.

Do you live near a major metro area? Do you live near a popular destination? Make the most of local special points of interest. Do people travel to your area to see something special in your area? Make the most of it! Hit the great museums and be a tourist in your own hometown for the day. Best of all -- you won't have to pay for hotel expenses.

Local recreation centers can provide you with fun and relaxation. Community areas provide resources such as pools, bowling alleys, wonderful enrichment classes, and more. What are your interests? Do you enjoy swimming? Treat yourself to a pool pass. Do you enjoy art? Are you interested in dabbling in a new medium? Take a watercolor painting class. The ideas are endless.

Whatever you decide to do to take time for yourself, make it fun, enjoyable, and relaxing! There are many ways to go local and still have fun. Be sure to visit our forum area and post your ideas!
