Crochet Hearts Appliqué Pattern


These cute heart shaped appliqués are perfect for your Valentine's Day crochet projects. You can sew these to hats, onsies, and t-shirts or use them tacked on to a handmade cards; they're quite versatile.

Crochet Hearts Appliqué Pattern

Skill Level - Easy

Measurements of finished project:
Large Heart: 3 1/2 inches high by 4 inches wide
Small Heart: 2 1/2 inches wide by 2 3/4 inches high

Materials
Yarn: Patons Grace (1.75 oz/50 g; 136 yds/125 m)
Color: Cardinal (1 skein)
Hook: US F/5 (3.75 mm)

Abbreviations:
ch = chain
dc = double crochet
sc = single crochet
sl st = slip stitch
tr = treble crochet
beg = beginning
RS = right side

Instructions For Large Heart:

ch3; join with sl st in first ch to form a ring.

Round 1 (RS): ch 3 (counts as first dc in this round and and the following round); work 11 dc into the ring; join with sl st in top of beg ch. (12 stitches in this round)

Round 2: ch 3; dc into the same stitch as the ch; *work dc 2 times into the next stitch; repeat from * 10 more times; join with sl st in top of beg ch. (24 stitches in this round)

Round 3: ch 5; (counts as first tc in this round and and the following round); tc 2 times into the next stitch; dc into the next stitch; *sc into the next stitch; repeat from star 4 more times; dc into the next stitch; tc 3 times into the next stitch; dc 2 times into the next stitch; sc into the next stitch; *sl st into the next stitch; repeat from * 1 more time; sc into the next stitch; dc 2 times into the next stitch; tc 3 times into the next stitch; dc 2 times into the next stitch; *sc into the next stitch; repeat from star 4 more times; dc into the next stitch; tc into the next stitch at the base of the first ch 5 of the round; join with sl st in top of beg ch. (34 stitches in the round)

Round 4: ch 5; dc 2 times into the same stitch as the ch; *sc into the next stitch; repeat from * 8 more times; dc 2 times into the next stitch; *tc 2 times into the next stitch; repeat from * 1 more time; dc 2 times into the next stitch; *sc into the next stitch; repeat from * 1 more time; *sl st into the next stitch; repeat from * 1 more time; *sc into the next stitch; repeat from * 1 more time; dc 2 times into the next stitch; * tc 2 times into the next stitch; repeat from * 1 more time; dc 2 times into the next stitch; *sc into the next stitch; repeat from * 8 more times; dc into the last stitch near the base of the first ch 5 of the round; join with sl st in top of beg ch. (44 stitches in the round and it should look like a heart.)

Finishing: fasten off and weave in the ends.
