Disability Clipart and Accessability

Guest Author - Tammy Murks

Not the senses I have but what I do with them is my kingdom.
~~Helen Keller~~

With so many disabled people out there, how do we find the clipart to include ALL types of individuals in our web pages and clipart projects? Seek and Ye Shall Find! I have found a nice variety of Positive Clipart for your varied projects. When I get farther in my studies, I hope to add another page of my own clipart offered to you for free as well! When that time arrives, I will notify you in my Newsletter. However, I have several links already available listed here for you now.

With the World Wide Web becoming more and more our vehicle for searching for, sharing and exchanging information, we need to consider the fact that some of these people are disabled. We have the blind or visually impaired, physically challenged deaf or hearing impaired, uniquely gifted and diverse learners that all need access to these sites, too. Is access all web browsers want? It is definitely nice! People also want to be included, acknowledged and affirmed whenever possible. How do we do this? The beginning is to offer more clipart including the disabled. In addition, we can also offer clear descriptions of the clipart so that text readers can read to the visually impaired. In our site maps, we could include a text version so pages arenít dead end pages for the visually disabled. We can also include text for buttons and HTML directed Clipart links so browsers donít get lost or left behind. However, nobody wants text only sites, so the inclusion of the above is our alternative. We have to include all the individuals we can on each page.
