Born: Karol Jozef Wojtyla on May 18, 1920
Was Ordained a Priest on November 1, 1946
Nominated Archbishop of Krakow on January 13, 1964
Elevated to Cardinal on June 26, 1967
Elected Pope on October 16, 1978
Died on April 2, 2005 at 84


Prayer of Thanksgiving for Pope John Paul II

Dear Lord, Thank you for giving us the gift of your holy servant Karol Josef Wojtyla – Pope John Paul II – to lead your church for so many years. He was truly a blessing to the church, our faith and the world. We have no doubt that he is with you now in paradise savoring the promise of eternal life. Hold him close to you and know that we are forever grateful for this gift of such a Holy Father, most truly a saint and shining example of Christ’s love. Amen.
