Mile a Minute Scarf!

Mile a Minute Scarf

Mile a Minute Scarf!

This is an ideal project for someone just learning to crochet! It only requires one simple stitch - the chain stitch and of course a couple of pompoms, to make an attractive scarf which can be adapted and worn in a variety of ways. In addition to being easy and quick to do, it is also a great way to eat up that yarn stash. Any mix of yarns will do - the more varied and textured the better!

Two or three yarns are crocheted together with a large N/P - 15 (us) / 10mm hook. A mix of different yarns are crocheted together each time to give a variation of textures. 300gms (12 oz) of mixed yarns were used to make the scarf shown including the pompoms.

To make the chain stitch step by step instructions are given in our BellaOnline instructions here

Tie around the chains
The scarf illustrated was made with 8 five foot lengths of chain stitch, however the number or length of chains can be varied as required. The lengths of chains need to be tied together at intervals down the length to stop the finished scarf getting tangled! The photograph to the left illustrates how the chains are tied. This can either be done in a yarn or thread the same colour as the scarf so the tie is hidden, or use a complimentary colour to make a feature of this!

The finished scarf can be worn in a variety of ways, one way is to stitch a pompom onto either end of the scarf and wear as a traditional scarf - or, for something different, stitch or knot each end of the chains together so they form big loops, randomly tie these together throughout the scarf to stop them from getting too tangled and then wear around the neck like a necklace - a pompom or two can be added for decoration or to hide the joining knots.
