Marie Callender Breakfast Sandwich Review


Marie Callender makes several of my favorite ready-to-eat foods. When I found out that the company had expanded their repertoire into breakfast sandwiches, I was eager to try them. Of course, being a researcher, I went online and looked at the reviews. They were a mixed bag. Some people loved the sandwiches, while others thought that they were not good at all. I had to see for myself.

We bought and prepared the Flaky Croissant, Sausage, Egg, and Monterey Jack and the Cheddar Biscuit with Sausage, Egg and Cheddar. I evaluated them for ease of use, taste, and nutrition.

Ease of use: In less than two minutes you can have a tasty, hot breakfast sandwich. Each sandwich is separately boxed in a special carton that crisps the bread as it cooks. There are complete cooking instructions provided. Follow them. You need to make sure that you adjust for your microwave’s power. If you leave the sandwich in the carton for several minutes afterward, you can expect the bread to continue cooking.

Taste: Both the croissant and the biscuit were more than I had hoped for. The outsides were crisp, the insides flaky, and they tasted good. The ratio of filling to ingredients was perfect for me. The egg, cheese, and sausage were tasty. The sandwiches seemed small, but they were flavorful and satisfying.

Nutrition: The nutritional information showed that these are highly processed foods. There is a long list of ingredients with foods that you would not ordinarily find in a home kitchen. Each sandwich has more than 20 grams of fat. The croissant sandwich has 22 grams of carb, while the biscuit has 27 grams of carb. That’s not bad for a sandwich!

To recap:
Both sandwiches were easy to prepare. You need to know your microwave and what it is capable of to make sure that the sandwich is cooked appropriately. No need to make the biscuit into a hockey puck, deliver a crunchy croissant, or have the middle of the sandwich be cool.

The sandwiches had a pleasant eggy taste with enough cheese to moisten and flavor the sandwich. If you like a ton of cheese, you can always add more. The sausage was juicy and flavorful.

The sandwiches weigh in at about four ounces. The sausage biscuit sandwich has 390 calories, while the sausage croissant sandwich has 370 calories. Both are high fat foods. Each of the sandwiches has less than 30 grams of carbs, which is good for a sandwich with a biscuit or croissant base.

At our store, the sandwiches cost about five dollars for four sandwiches. That compares favorably with a breakfast sandwich from a fast food restaurant, as does the flavor that each sandwich delivers. I recommend the Marie Callender Flaky Croissant, Sausage, Egg, and Monterey Jack and the Cheddar Biscuit with Sausage, Egg and Cheddar. I will buy them again for my household.
