Teach the Letter G

Teach your preschool pal about the letter G! This great letter is not only good to learn about, but it is also groovy! Here are a variety of ideas to use in your home or classroom when teaching the letter G:
Language Arts- A list of familiar and not so familiar G words are below. Plus, be sure to write these, along with pictures and both capital and lowercase G on a whiteboard or easel. Discuss the meaning and spelling with the preschoolers you are teaching as well.

Writing- Learning to write the capital and lowercase g can be difficult for many preschoolers. A great site to visit is DLTK, and utilize their G Tracer Pages. You can easily print these for your preschoolers to practice with, using a primary pencil.
Crafts- DLTK offers a great "Gloria G Alphabuddy" craft that your kiddos will enjoy creating, and it will reinforce the letter shape. You can find that here:

Science- Study together the animals that start with the letter g- gorillas, giraffes, goldfish, groundhogs and goats. Create a bulletin board with pictures of each of these animals and read about each of this groovy animals! Here are some glorious books I recommend:
Math- Utilize the gorilla counting book as recommended above to reinforce or teach basic counting skills. Bring out a bunch of grapes and weigh them together, and then compare and contrast similar weighted items. Count out how many grapes come in a single bunch, and how it differs between green, red and purple grapes. Make a graph (another g word) to show your findings.
Art- Use the colors gold and green, along with pictures cut out from magazines with g items- like grass or Glo-worm. Have the preschool crew glue these items on.
Science- Plant a small garden and chart how your plants grow. Another option is to get a fish tank with a goldfish and add gravel of various textures and sizes.
Cooking- Make some homemade guacamole with fresh avocado and limes.
