Crochet For Father's Day
Guest Author - Kate Pullen

This Father's Day, why not crochet a gift for the special man in your life! There are plenty of things to crochet and many of these are quick and easy to do.

Neck Warmers
Neck warmers are great for gifts and are easy to adapt. Our pattern for a simple neck warmer is great for Father's day. This is also a good way to use up odds and ends of yarn.

Hats
Crocheted hats are so easy to make and very versatile. There are many great free crochet patterns available and these can quickly be worked in a variety of yarns. Make a hat in the colors of your Father's favorite sports team, or perhaps in a color that goes with his favorite sweater! If you are feeling very productive then why not crochet a couple of hats for different occasion. Pure wool is great for hats, however man made fibers such as acrylic can be harder wearing.

Ties
Crocheted ties were all the rage in the 70's and they come and go as popular accessories. These are relatively quick to make up (after all they are only like a very thin scarf!) with minimal shaping. They can be jazzed up with funky yarns. Bright colored stripes or some colored pattern can brighten up an otherwise plain tie.

Scarf
While Father's day falls at the start of summer, and winter may feel a long way off, scarves make a great gift. Very long scarves can be a lovely way for Father's to wrap up warm to watch a winter sports match or when out for a hike, smaller scarves are perfect for wearing over a suit jacket. These can be adapted and varied so that a truly personal gift has been made for your lucky father!

Tips for Crocheting for Father's Day:

Pick the right yarn for the project: Hats and scarves are lovely and cosy when crocheted in a natural fiber, whereas when crocheted in acrylic are much more practical and can be popped into hot wash and into the tumble dryer without worry.

Choose masculine colors : Greens, blues and browns are great colors for men and go with a variety of outfits. Dark reds and golds are also a popular choice. It is possible to dye most natural fibers to create your own unique colors if something really special is required.
