9/11 Anniversary - Reflection and Prayer

I’m sure none of us will ever forget where we were when we heard about the terrible events that shook our nation, and the world, on September 11, 2001. That morning I was at home waiting for the plumber, in fact it was our plumber who told me about the first two airplanes crashing into the World Trade Center towers. For most of the day I was glued to the television, in shock.

As terrible as those terrorists attacks were, and they were, it was also a day when we came together. It was a day that, even though laced with the hate of the terrorism, was enveloped in love. A love that poured out of each and every person who helped in any way possible. Small or large. Many risked their lives to rescue others. Many watched television from a distance, and reached out in the best way they knew how – by praying for those most directly affected, as we were all affected. Even though many of us didn’t personally know someone who was lost in those attacks, September 11, 2001 is a day that none of us will ever forget. It’s a day that has affected us all, in one way or another.

As we remember and reflect on one of the days that forever changed our nation and our world, here is a short prayer I wrote a few years ago that I'd like to offer and share:

Dear Lord,

Please hold those families who lost someone in the horrific terrorist attacks of 9/11 carefully in the palm of your hand always, especially this time of year. Please welcome those lost into your kingdom. Hold them close to you, now and forever. Guide those who have and continue to serve and protect our county in order for us to experience the blessing of freedom. Give them the wisdom, courage and protection they need. We especially pray for all those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for the price of our freedom.

Amen

Peace in Christ,
