Three artists, who in your host's humble opinion, should be household names are Selia Qynn, Karen Tyler and Ellen Rosner. These gals are independent singer/songwriters whose skill on the guitar is only surpassed by their incredible voices. Eight of their albums can be purchased online with an opportunity for you to try before you buy. Check out their websites, as well as the Music4Women website which features a couple of downloadable MP3's from each artist.
Let's look at Selia Qynn (http://selia.com). If you need to disappear from the hubbub of disharmony in your life, spin "The Surreal Life Adventures of Stella Quest." The music is soft and silky, rich in storytelling and will gently hold you, lest you tumble out of the stars in your flight of fancy while listening. Close your eyes, and you will become Stella, who "doesn't sleep, so her dreams become a reality of colorful vignettes complete with a cast of characters..." Selia hails from Houston, TX, is a featured performer in Women In The Round On the Road, a presentation of Linda Lowe's Writers In The Round. MyTexasMusic.com includes her among their Select Platinum Artists.
Karen Tyler (http://karentyler.com) is a divine blues diva whose rich and expressive voice, dazzling guitar work and approachable lyrics make her music a "must have" for any woman's collection. Her latest album, "Alone & Blue," is good choice for listening with gal pals for a night of girl talk. Listen to a song or two from her latest album, "Alone & Blue", and then share a story (THAT I JUST KNOW YOU HAVE) about you or "your friend" who had a blue moment like the ones Karen sings about. Karen is a resident of Paso Robles, CA and performs the west coast festival circuit. Her music is critically acclaimed and has seen the light of day on the national blues charts.
Need to rock out some? Try Ellen Rosner's (http://ellenrosner.com) newest CD, "Count to 3". Listening to "B-Grade Movie" or "Empty Bottle" is a pleasant way to vent without actually confronting. It's entertaining and healing to imagine using Ellen's words to tell that special someone..."Don't let the door hit 'cha on the way out!" Live, Ellen is a powerhouse performer, unmistakably talented and unapologetically her own woman. With her band or solo, she will capture you, rock your world and then relax you with her "we're really just sitting across the table from each other having a cup of coffee, aren't we?" stage presence.
Give these gals a listen and tell me what you think!
