AlphaSmart 3000 Review
Guest Author - Debra K. Rief

This is an excellent tool to be used in a special education classroom.
Wireless writing now available!

When someone has a physical disability, writing can be difficult. Many people have trouble writing legibly or tire easy because of writing. Often typing makes writing easier. Computers have helped writers with physical disabilities tremendously. Unfortunately, a full computer system isn’t very portable, and laptops can be too expensive. AlphaSmart 3000 is a simple solution to your writing needs.

AlphaSmart 3000 is a portable word processor. It is a keyboard and a LCD screen that makes your text able to view. AlphaSmart weighs only two pounds and can go anywhere. Students and anyone who has a disability would benefit from it. Expensive? No, the AlphaSmart is extremely inexpensive compared to any other portable writing technology. The price starts at $200 and has a three-year warranty.

Do you write a lot or worry it won’t hold sufficient text? Well, no need to worry any longer. This word processor can store 100 pages of text. It also has a spell check. After you type into the AlphaSmart, all is left is to do is plug it into your computer or printer and send the text. In only a short amount of time, the text is sent and displayed or printed. The AlphaSmart 3000 also has an infrared capability. This means you can plug an adapter into your USB port and text can be sent that way. It is compatible with PC's and Mac’s. And, most word processor programs are compatible with the AlphaSmart.

Accessories and adaptive equipment are available for the AlphaSmart. Key guards and key skins can be purchased. Bags are also for purchasing so you can carry it anywhere. The AlphaSmart can be used for 500 hours using three triple A batteries or 200 hours with a rechargeable battery.

The Sticky keys function is already on the AlphaSmart. Sticky keys allow the shift key to be held down with one push instead of having to hold down a key. Programs are also available to learn how to type and programs can be used in the classroom environment.

I recommend AlphaSmart 3000 because I use it constantly. The company has a loaner program where anyone can test it out for two weeks. All you pay is the shipping cost to send it back. Try one out today!
