Hello, I am Diane Miller, the Special Education Editor. I appreciate your interest in the special education newsletter. This is a free, weekly publication with information intended to help guide you through the maze of special education.

I am the parent of a child diagnosed with learning disabilities. I have spent over ten years navigating my way through the confusing world of special education without the benefit of a map to guide me. Needless to say, there have been a lot of wrong turns along the way.

As a result, I have learned a lot about the Special Education system. It has been a long and frustrating journey. Even though I have made enormous improvements for my son I can’t help but think; if I had known then what I know now, it would have saved us so much blood, sweat and tears along the way. I know that over the years, he has suffered academically and emotionally because he wasn’t properly receiving the services that he needed. As a result, each year we are forced to try and build on top of a weak academic foundation. Sometimes I get frustrated with things that happened over the years and ask myself why. Why did we have to go through so much for so long?

This is my answer: If I can take what I learned and use it to help someone else; If it smoothes a couple of bumps along the way for one child, then I know our journey had a purpose. My goal for this site is to give you that short cut on your journey.

This newsletter is another tool that I hope you will find helpful. It will provide links to helpful articles, books and other tools that I found especially helpful.

I believe in the special education system but, like anything, it is only as strong as it’s weakest link. With a little bit of knowledge and understanding you can fix those links and allow special education to work for your child.

If you would like to subscribe, simply enter your email address in the space below or to the right. You may also participate in the special education forum by clicking the word forum located at the top right of the page.

You will not be asked any other information and Bellaonline uses a secure database. We will never share your address with anyone. The only email you will ever get as a result of sharing your address will be the newsletter that you have asked for. You may unsubscribe at any time by hitting the link provided at the bottom of every newsletter.

Good luck on your journey, and always know that you do make a difference in the life of your child.
