This technique is very impressive and easy:
Materials needed:
- Kaleidabolor Ink Pad or other inks in various colors, or your favorite markers
- Spray Bottle filled with Water
- Any bold stamp
- White Cardstock
- Heat Tool
Impressionistic Watercolor
Have you ever seen watercolor images that seemed so well blended they were simply stunning? This technique can be achieved in stamping as well as watercolor using your markers and a solid stamp. This project will not work as well with art stamps or intricate images as your base layer.
Start out by wetting your paper as you would do for watercolor painting. Then take your chosen stamp and using two or three different colors fill in your stamp thoroughly. After your stamp is completely colored in stamp on your wet paper. The color will run. It is supposed to do that. You can over-stamp your image two or three times without re-coloring your stamp. Do this by moving your stamp at an angle about halfway off the first impression to the left, and again about halfway off your image at an angle to the right. The second and third over-stamped images will be progressively lighter than the first one, giving your design a variegated look. Repeat this process as needed to cover your page with about 75% of your paper being covered. Allow your page to dry thoroughly. If you wish to speed up the process you can put the page in the microwave for about a minute or so.
When your page is dry you can stamp any images you wish over your watercolor page. One impressive look is to use layered stamps for your design. After the base color has dried go back over your darkest impressions with your outline stamp to add definition. This will give you a look similar to pen & ink over watercolor. Don’t worry that your outline stamp will not line up perfectly, you will end up with a freeform design that is very pleasing to the eye.
If you do not want to use layered stamps, try using stamps that carry a similar theme, such as Easter Eggs as the base, and bunnies and flowers as your design. You can also use impressionistic watercolor as your background for your design and layer other papers over it.
