Futuristic Fashion - Invasion of the Robots

Futuristic Fashion - Invasion of the Robots
It’s perhaps the strangest trend set to arrive this spring, the futuristic, almost robotic fashion movement that has been released onto the catwalks this season by high-fashion houses such as Dolce & Gabbana and Versace has stunned the high street to silence.

Other spring trends have been easy for the mainstream fashion stores to imitate and sell at cut prices, yet this is one perhaps reserved for models and daring fashionistas who aren’t afraid of looking like they’ve stumbled off the set of Star Trek. It’s not something that will appeal to most of us, but this look can be toned down into something more wearable taking inspiration from some of the key features of the trend.

Metallics

Already a hot look that will take you right into the summer – the Robotic trend draws heavily on startling metallics in shimmering gold, silver and bronze. As glamorous as this sounds it’s vital not too overdo the bling – many a fashion casualty takes the metallic look too far and ends up looking akin to a foil-wrapped chicken. Think about accessorising with metallics or simply keeping them to an understated minimum i.e. marrying a lavish sparkly silver bag with a plain black outfit or finding yourself a fantastic pair of geometric gold earrings/glittery shoes to set off your futuristic look.

Shape

If you’d prefer to avoid garish glimmer and sequins, simply opt for shapely garments and geometric shapes. The futuristic look in many ways is ideal for every woman, as it works on highlighting both curves and straight, flat lines. For women with curves, adopt figure-cinching corsets and drawn-in waist-belted coats that will accentuate your hourglass shape without making your look frumpy. The traditional mack is great for this (wear with a short skirt underneath) or if you’re feeling cheeky, opt for a “is it underwear, is it a top” corset, preferably in black or dark blue. For slimmer ladies your figures are perfect for the straight-cut mini-tunics and leggings that define this trend. If you’re lucky enough to have long slim legs, why not be daring and wear silver leggings with a simple black dress over the top, teamed with a chain-mail clutch.

Texture

The great thing about this look is that you can be as experimental with clashing textures as you like! This theme is all about taking the rough with the smooth so think soft leather waistcoats teamed with tops created out of shiny geometric gold discs, think slick patent stilettos against an otherwise neutral belted mack. Feel free to play with patent, leather, plastic, sequins and chain mail when creating your spacey look.
