I've posted contests and sweepstakes, articles on how to beat the odds, tips on designing catchy envelopes and winning ideas, but without one essential element, your chances are diminished.
That necessary element is attitude! Over the next couple of weeks I am going to write about different attributes that are crucial to winning, and they are found in almost everyone who has ever been successful.
I believe your attitude can dictate the course of your life, affect your relationships and bring out the best, or the worst, of what's really inside of you.
One key attribute is perseverance, which Merriam-Webster defines as to persist in a state, enterprise, or undertaking in spite of counterinfluences, opposition, or discouragement.
Think on that for a moment. One who stands, no matter what comes against them and no matter how discouraged they become. Can you say that about yourself, or are you one who tries something a few times and if you have no success, then you quit and go on to the next thing?
When discouragement comes do you flop down, have a lonely pity party and cry woe is me? If opposition confronts you, do you turn and go the other way? And how about counterinfluences? When people around you say you're wasting your time doing those sweepstakes, do you listen to the negative feedback, or do you resist the influences that are trying to deter you from what you really want to do?
It is important to ask yourself these questions because they are instrumental in figuring out how you approach life and they also define how you make decisions. Winners live their lives with a 'no matter what it takes' attitude. No mountain is too high, no giant too big and no obstacle is immovable. If you can grab a hold of perseverance, then you have a key that is invaluable.
Perseverance is when everyone else is winning, instead of whining, you fill out more entries. When finances get in the way of mailing out entries, you find online sweepstakes. When people tell you you're crazy for entering those contests that no one wins, you smile within yourself, knowing the day will come when you will be able to tell them, "Well you're looking at a winner, right here!"
This week, don't practice perseverance, do it. To just practice it would mean you may or may not be able to follow through with it. That is negative to begin with. Set your mind to just do it. Like a dog with a bone, hang in there, no matter what comes up in your life and see if you don't feel stronger and more victorious.
John Quincy Adams (1767-1848) said, "Courage and perseverance have a magical talisman, before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish into air.
