Jennifer Hudson

Did you take in the Oscars last night? It was so nice to see a few curves represented at the Oscars. Jennifer Hudson looked fabulous (actually, I'd say everyone looked fab)? And her vocals were simply amazing too. I watched Jennifer on Barbara Walter's Oscar Special beforehand and the most notable part of the interview was when she sang a few lines. I don't know what the song was but it gave me chills, I don't often get the chills, and had Barbro in tears.

I can't believe how well twenty-five year old Jennifer Hudson, or JHud as she affectionately calls herself, has done in such a short amount of time. She has come a long way from performing in her church choir and on cruise ships. It seems like yesterday when she made the final twelve on the hit show American Idol. Before she was voted off she was told by judge and professional music scout Simon Cowell that she didn't have what it takes to be a success.

A year later Jennifer was asked to audition with 700 other women for the role of Effie White a songstress trying to make it big in the 1960s. When you take into consideration the casting, rehearsal and movie making process, she's had a very busy and an extremely successful go of it.

In less than three years Jennifer has received over a dozen awards for her role as Effie White in Dreamgirls. Most notably are the Golden Globe, the Screen Actor's Guild Award and now an Oscar. This Chicago native's curves definitely aren't holding her back!

So what is next for this down to earth beauty? She's working on her first solo album (she's on the Dreamgirls soundtrack singing seven songs, two solo) I hope we'll see later this year. She'll be showing off her curves and flawless skin in the March 2007 issue of Vogue Magazine. I was thrilled to hear this. I haven't read Vogue since I was a teenager but from what I remember and what I've seen from the covers she's sure to stir things up. Rumour has it she's the first black singer to ever grace the cover. Success is success, no matter what your size, or colour for that matter, and she has it.
