Introducing Greek Yoghurt To Your Meals
If you have never tried Greek yoghurt before then give it a go because its thick consistency and zesty flavour are a real treat and ideal for use with breakfast, main courses and desserts.
To help give you a few ideas on how it can be introduced to your food, try some of these options on for size.
Greek Yoghurt on Cereal
Everyone likes change every now and then, so why don't you use some Greek yoghurt on your cereal instead of milk?
This alternative would give you the chance to vary your breakfast. For example:
30g / 1 ounce helping of bran flakes.
1 heaped tablespoon of Greek yoghurt.
3 strawberries, sliced and placed on top.
Make your own Tzatziki
Tzatziki proves to be very popular and it can be served with a range of appetizers (ideal as a dip for vegetables), with main courses (such as souvlaki or grilled swordfish) and even as a salad dressing.
You can buy tzatziki ready made but it is very simple to create your own version of this flavoursome cucumber sauce.
Tzaztiki with Mint
1 chopped cucumber (it doesn't have to be peeled but can be if you prefer).
The amount of Greek yoghurt needed may vary but a recommended amount is anything between 200g and 300g / 7 - 10 ounces.
Add the cucumber to the yoghurt and mix well.
Add a small amount of lemon juice - to taste.
Finish by adding a sprig or two of mint then cover and leave in the fridge ready for serving.
Greek Yoghurt as a Dessert
On its own, Greek yoghurt makes a great dessert to finish off a wonderful main course but there are a range of ingredients which could be added to make an extra special final dish.
Greek Yoghurt Surprise
You may be looking for ways of using Greek yoghurt as part of a dessert rather than being the main or only ingredient. This is one possibility but you can use a variety of items to make your own unique creation:
For 1 serving
Take a handful of fresh blueberries and place in a sundae dish.
Next, slice 3 or 4 strawberries and add.
Take half a banana, chop and place in the dish with the other fruits.
Add 1 - 2 tablespoons of Greek yoghurt.
Finish the dessert by sprinkling with crushed biscuits or pistachios. For a little extra treat, you could introduce a swirl of honey to your yoghurt before serving.
