Guys Read.com

What's with boys? Why won't they read? Explore the site that tackles this tough topic.

Our September site of the month addresses the difficult subject of boys and books. GuysRead.com is dedicated to bridging the gap between guys and books.

Jon Scieszka, the successful author of the Time Warp Trio, The Stinky Cheese Man, The Happy Hocky Family (one of my favorite picture books), has established the Guys Read site. Being a guy himself he knows his territory. Scieszka (rhymes with Fresca) is one of six boys in his family, and taught elementary school for ten years. He convincingly lays out the information supporting an initiative to promote reading to boys and young men. Did you know that boys commit suicide four times more often than girls?

The site is not just filled with "Gee, we oughta" comments. Scieszka offers concrete ideas and lists of books for boys and young men. There is a downloadable poster. Guys can vote on their favorite books. There is also a link to a Guys Read discussion group.

Don't miss this site! The topic is important to every guy, and every woman who cares about guys. Pass this recommendation on to anyone who has boys, teaches boys, serves boys in a library, or cares about the future of boys in our society.
