April '07 Book Club Selection

Hello, and welcome back! If you've joined us over in the forum recently, perhaps you helped us to decide to read a historical romance this month. And then, perhaps, you helped us to decide which one. And even if you haven't stopped by lately, I hope you'll stop by soon, because we've chosen our April Book Club Selection, and it's time to start reading so we can start discussion on this one in just a few weeks.

Slightly Married (Dell) by Mary Balogh is our selection for April 2007. This one kicks off her Bedwyn family series with Aidan. He's vowed to protect the sister of one of his dead soldiers, and protect her he will, despite her unexpected independent streak. Eve Morris is about to lose her family home, and the only thing that will save her is a marriage to this stranger who's appeared on her doorstep. But that is the last thing she wants, no matter how she feels about her family home. Yet what other choice does she have? This is a couple who never should have been together, but who will do their duty as countless good people did in those times, and put aside their personal preferences. In this instance, however, a strange thing happens afterward: emotions get involved as Aidan and Eve never intended, and they might just be able to make this a love match after all.

If you've read and enjoyed the Bedwyn series already, here's your chance to revisit some beloved characters and talk books with other romance readers. Our plan is to spend the first couple weeks of this month reading (or re-reading) the book, then move to the forum around 4/21/07 to begin our discussion of this one. Be warned, there will likely be story spoilers, so if you're not done reading and don't want to know ahead of time how they work things out, keep out of that particular thread so as not to ruin any surprises. You will need to be registered to participate in the discussion, but registration for the forums is free and only takes a few minutes. Then you can join us in all sorts of discussions, including the monthly book club discussions. I hope you'll join us!

Until next time, happy reading!
