Earn dropped out of college and alternates living with his ex-girlfriend and his parents. The show centers on Earn and Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry) navigating through the Atlanta rap scene.
The show is genuinely funny and Glover’s sense of humor is dry instead of slapstick. He often encounters so many roadblocks that it will sometimes have you wondering if one person could really have so much bad luck. For example, Earn was strapped for cash but he wanted to impress his ex-girlfriend. He took her to a restaurant that a friend told him had really cheap specials. Once there, he learned that the restaurant no longer offered the low-priced meals and instead the menu was very expensive. Not wanting to seem cheap to his ex-girlfriend, he was faced with trying to order as little as possible but not letting his ex catch on.
Another highlight is the music. Glover does a good job of showcasing the city of Atlanta as well as different types of music throughout the episodes.
The series premiered to high ratings and it had 10 episodes. Atlanta did so well in the first season that it was quickly renewed for a second season.
Atlanta broadcasts on the FX channel. You can catch the first season on Amazon .
