Crochet Garden Bunting

Crochet Bunting
This garden bunting is a pretty way to decorate a pot, however can be used in other ways too – it can be hung across a door, or perhaps around a gazebo or garden umbrella. If you are planning a garden party and looking for some unusual decorations then this could be just the job!

The bunting is worked in rows lengthwise, therefore it is important to work out the finished required length before starting. The number of stitches will depend on the thickness of string and the size hook used.

TIP: If you are going to make a long length, then how about buying a couple of different colored strings and work several shorter lengths and tying them together.

For more information about crocheting with string take a look at this BellaOnline article.

Instructions to Crochet Garden Bunting from String.

The pattern works in repeats over 13 stitches + 5. Therefore if you want to make some bunting with 5 patterns then the you need 5 x 13 = 65 stitches + 5. Therefore 70 stitches in total.

Make the required number of chain.

Row 1: Make 2 turning chain and work one row in Single Crochet

Row 2: Make 3 turning chain, Double Crochet into the first 5 stitches; * Make 5 chain, miss 3 stitches and work 1 Double Treble into each of the next 2 stitches (for information on how to work the Double Treble see these instructions. Make 5 Chain stitches, miss 3 stitches and work 1 Double Crochet into the next 5 stitches. * Repeat from * to * the required number of times.

Row 3: Make 3 turning Chain. Work 1 Double Crochet into first 4 stitches * 3 chain and work (2 Treble Stitches, 3 Chain, 1 Double Treble) into the next stitch (ie the top of the first Double Treble on the previous row). Work (1 Double Treble, 3 Chain, 2 Treble) into next stitch. Make 3 chain, and work 3 Double Crochet into the middle 3 stitches of previous row. * Repeat from * to * the required number of times. Note: Work 4 Double Crochet at the end of the row.

Row 4: Make 3 turning chain. (note: One double crochet is worked into the top of the treble/double treble of previous row). Work 2 Double Crochet into the first two stitches of the previous row, * [make 3 chain, 1 Double Crochet into each of the next 2 stitches]. Repeat twice. 3 chain and 1 Double Crochet into the middle of the 3 stitches in the previous row.* Repeat from * to * as required, make 1 extra Double Crochet at the end of the row.

Row 5: As above, however between the 2 Double Crochet at the point of each pattern, make 5 chain. Variation: You could make a picot here to give a more pronounced point.

Try using your favorite crochet edging as bunting. When worked with string and a thick needle even the most lacy of patterns take on a whole new appearance.
