Claiming to be the largest Halloween costume and party supplier on the internet is no small feat but Buy Costumes does it. They have a large array of adult costumes, kid costumes, accessories (make-up, hats, wigs, masks) party supplies, decorations, props, mascot costumes, and pet costumes.
Selection: Buy Costumes does have a huge selection of costumes. There are well over 300 in plus size styles to choose from. The usual pirates and vampires and witches as well as some unique ones like Barbarian Woman (think Conan), Tracy Turnblad from Hairspray, Marilyn Monroe, Mermaid, Goddesses galore and Egyptian Queens, Wilma, Batgirl and other super heroes.
Sizing: A few years ago I was disappointed in their sizing but they have really come a long way. They still have the usual one size plus size which covers a breast area of 42"-44" and a waist of 35" - 38"; approximately 18-22. But now they have multi sizing for many of their costumes which can consist of a combo size like 1x/2x and 3x/4x or individual sizing like 2x, 3x, 4x.
Pricing: The prices vary from $25 to well over $100.
Availability: They ship to the United States and Canada within a week. On the positive side for Canadians they add the duty and taxes on so you don't have to worry about paying for them at the door. On the negative side, they charge a $20 remote handling fee.
Overall Impression: They've renovated the site again and it is much easier to surf and find plus sizes. They offer a new selection of plus+ sizes that go up to 4x. They look like a better quality and with that goes a higher price but they do offer a good range of prices. Great selection and some of their plus size costumes were actually modeled by plus size women. The handling fee for Canadian customers throws any customer service stars out the window.
With the latest renovation they have made the plus size options easier to find (and improved size range). Visit the adult costumes tab, then look for plus size in the categories section of the sidebar.
