Plus Size Wonder Woman Costume

The Amazon Princess is a symbol of beauty, intelligence, love, skill and strength. For decades women have felt a kinship towards her; even plus size women. There is no way William Marston could have imagined the impact that such a figure would have when he created her in 1941. She is more than a symbol of physical beauty. She is a symbol of acceptance for all mankind in all its shapes and forms.

I particularly this excerpt from the Amazon Code that speaks plainly of Wonder Woman's and all Amazon's purpose: "We are a nation of women, dedicated to our sisters, to our gods and to the peace that is humankind's right. Granted life by Gaea, the goddesses, and the souls of women past, we have been gifted with the mission to unite the people of our world with love and compassion." I'm surprised she doesn't have little hearts on her skirt instead of stars.

Speaking of her costume there are important aspects of the Wonder Woman Costume that every wonder girl should know. The red, white and blue signature colors are a tribute to Diana Trevor, the American pilot who killed a monster the Amazons were battling when her plane crash landed on their island. She gave her life nobly without knowing who she was helping. Hestia's Lasso of Truth is the yellow cord Wonder Woman carries at her hip. It is unbreakable and anyone encircled within it can not tell a lie. The bracelets around her wrists not only dodge bullets they are a symbol of the enslavement her Amazon sisters endured from Hercules. Wonder Woman's special golden ones were manufactured from shards of Zeus's shield. She won them in a contest on her island for the best Amazon. The tiara, a symbol of her royal status, has a razor sharp edge and can be hurled at objects but will always return back to her.

Wonder Woman has been one of my favorite super heroes since I was a child. And apparently I'm not the only one. It was only last year that a costume was actually available commercially for plus size women. This is a fast selling costume and has been available at a number of online costume shops. The current plus size Wonder Woman costume is available with a skirt so you don't feel like you're walking around in your underwear. Wonder Woman's costume has alternated between brief and skirt over the years and for a time her mother Hippolypta wore a skirt while she was filling in for her daughter.

Currently it is available at Costume Craze and Buy Costumes for $45 - $60 depending on style.
