Women have come a long way since the witch trials in Salem. Today's practicing witches no longer need to hide in their closets with their brooms. While green faces and hairy moles have been a common place feature of Halloween costumes, the television series Charmed has made witches, sexy, fashionable and totally hairy-mole-less. But people still love their Halloween inspired witches.
My very first Halloween costume was a witch. I can't remember how old I was but I remember being hustled over to my neighbor's house and being dressed up in an old black wool skirt, knee highs and cardigan. Instead of a pointed hat I had a black lace shawl that went over my head and around my shoulders. She painted my face green and put black moles all over it. It was a hoot. I remember going to school and all my classmates cooing about how good I looked.
My next experience with witches was watching The Wizard of Oz. You can only imagine how my second experience impacted my first experience. If you haven't seen the Wizard of Oz you owe it to yourself to watch this classic. Witches play a big role in this movie. The bad witches are deformed and ugly and of course wear black while the good witches are beyond beautiful and wear flowing white. My first experience with witches had me looking like a bad witch while my second showed me the beauty and goodness of Glinda the good witch of the South. Like childhood isn't already confusing. Witch Halloween costumes are a popular item, especially amongst plus size women. We have all grown up with some form of witch in our head although these days witches tend to be more sexy than scary but scary is definitely available. A bad witch isn't necessary dressed in black and it is still perfectly acceptable if you want to get out the green face paint and splurge on a mole or two.
Buy Costumes, by far, has the biggest style selection including an evil witch that in my opinion looks exactly like the bad witch from Oz (21710). I especially like the Goth Maiden Witch (31819 - shown right), the Wicked Queen, the Magnificent Witch (17990), the Sorceress (21701), and the Wicked Wishes Witch (21707). Incidentally, they also have Dorothy (12571) and a Good Witch (21560) getup. You can surf their site via the link below using the product codes in brackets or do a simple search on their site using "plus witches". Prices range from $45 - $120.
