I'm not a bug person. I hate bugs actually. One of my favorite movies is Starship Troopers, "The only good bug is a dead bug." Now I realize this is not environmentally friendly but I do have some standardized rules when it comes to bugs. They are safe if they are outside, once they enter my domain they are playing roulette. Unless of course they are ladybugs. Or ladybirds depending on where you live?
I've always loved ladybugs. I think all children love them and most adults seem to tolerate them more than any other creepy crawly. There's something comforting in that black and red suit. My Aunt Ida always believed if you found a ladybug in your house or on your person it was good luck. I once found 64 ladybugs in my apartment in Thunder Bay. I didn't feel lucky. I felt really creeped out. A bug is still a bug when it comes to numbers. One of the best things about ladybugs is when you see them the first time in spring. You know that warm weather is not far away. Ladybug costumes are harder to find than your average witch or pirate. If you want to be cute as a ladybug then check out the Plus Size Lady Bug costume (SA110) in sizes 16 - 20 at Costume Craze. The complete costume comes with the dress, wings, antennae, necklace and the gloves. All you need is some black stockings and boots. They also have a Plus Luscious Lady Bug (SA138) costume that is available in sizes 14 - 18 and comes with antenna headband, choker, corset top, wings, skirt, panties, sleeve-lets, and thigh-high stockings.
If you're feeling creative you can make your own Ladybug wings by using a fairy wing pattern I found at Squidoo. All you need to do is dress all in black and stick some black pipe cleaners in your hair for antennae. Learn how to make wings.
When you are dressing up in your Ladybug costume sing this childhood nursery rhyme to help you get into character:
Ladybird, ladybird, fly away home
Your house is on fire and your children are gone
All except one, and that's Little Anne
For she has crept under the warming pan.
