Epilepsy Awareness Month. Nov. 1–30.
To increase public awareness that despite dramatic gains in treatment, epilepsy is a serious and chronic health condition for which there is no cure. For more information, browse www.epilepsyfoundation.org.

Lung Cancer Awareness Month. Nov. 1–30. To increase attention to lung cancer issues—early detection, increased research funding and increased support for those living with lung cancer. For more information, browse www.lungcanceralliance.org.

National Alzheimer’s Disease Month. Nov. 1–30. To increase awareness of Alzheimer’s disease, advances in research, and help for patients, caregivers and families. For more information, browse www.alz.org.

National Scholarship Month. Nov. 1–30. To increase awareness of the need for and importance of scholarships as well as to acknowledge and celebrate the positive impact of private-sector scholarships on access, choice and success in higher education. Sadie Hawkins Day. Nov. 3.
Tradition established in the Li’l Abner comic strip in the 1930s by cartoonist Al Capp. A popular occasion when women and girls are encouraged to take the initiative in inviting the man or boy of their choice for a date.

Daylight Savings Time ends; Standard Time resumes. Nov. 4, 2007–March 9, 2008. Many use the popular rule “spring forward, fall back” to remember which way to turn their clocks. Also, it’s time to check the batteries in all smoke alarms in your home.

Veterans Day. Nov. 11. To honor veterans. Held on the anniversary of the World War I Armistice. “At the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month” fighting ceased in World War I.
